According to the CDC, African American women die during childbirth at three times the rate of white women nationwide. In Virginia, Black women experience maternal mortality at twice the rate of their white counterparts. Birth in Color RVA exists to change these devastating statistics through culturally competent doula care, community advocacy, and systemic change. Since 2018, our doulas have supported over 2,500 births without losing a single mother or birthing person.
