About Our Doula’s Training

“Salwa Salim is an ethnic Malay from Singapore who is a medically-trained professional and comes from a lineage of traditional midwives. She is the leading expert in the Malay birthing tradition in Singapore, where her work has received national recognition, and is often invited to collaborate with universities and museums. She is a regular face in the media for her work on birthing traditions and has been quoted by researchers in books and journals. She is active in the birthing community both in U.S. and Singapore. Her team of practitioners in Singapore provides services to women in her massage clinic as well as in-home services all over Singapore. Birth in Color RVA has a number of doulas who are also trained in Malay Belly Binding. They use their knowledge and training to support all Birth in Color clients who request postpartum belly binding services.
Our first 32 clients get FREE services, you only pay for the cost of your traditional wraps, which you get to keep.
After the above promotion has expired, package pricing is based on the client’s need for services and will include the cost of the binding wraps. After applying, a pricing package will be sent via email.
Belly binding can be done immediately after birth however we recommend waiting until day 5. This way we can ensure that you haven’t had any complications.
We don’t recommend belly binding after 12 months postpartum.
Yes, we prefer that you book the service prior to baby being born so that we schedule your services with one of our specialists.
Yes, it is recommended after a C-section you do belly belling once your scar has healed. Typically about 3 weeks.
